high-wire

a mist-coated cobweb
shines and flaps in the breeze—
ethereal laundry hung
on the line of the electrical wire
or the telephone wire—
whichever complicated string of bird roost
connects us
house to house as it carries
sound and light and voices and
the life’s work of one determined spider
